What are Community Groups?
Community Groups are smaller groups of people who meet regularly to study the Bible, pray together, encourage one another in doing good, and who serve the community together.
Why does Trinity Harbor have Community Groups?
The New Testament envisions the people of God living as a community – as members of one another. When Paul speaks of what it means to be unified to Jesus, he does so by stressing a picture of renewed community (not just renewed individuals). When Jesus speaks of how the world will know that we are his, he says that our identity in him will be revealed by our love for one another. The New Testament presents a picture of community that cannot possibly be achieved simply by worshipping together on Sunday morning. Therefore, we need something more. Community Groups are intended to be the place where we take the ministry of God’s Word on Sunday morning and press it into our community – by serving one another and by serving the communities in which we exist.
Who is welcome at a Community Group?
Everyone is welcome at a Community Group. You are encouraged to consider attending the one closest to you geographically, but if that group doesn’t work out then feel free to choose another. Some groups are more kid-friendly than others, so pay attention to the format each group has chosen to follow. Overall, we’ve tried to keep the cost of getting babysitters to a bare minimum. If you are reluctant to attend a Community Group because you cannot afford a babysitter, please know that there are funds available from the church to meet this need. If you are interested in using these funds, please connect one of the Deacons, who are listed on the back cover of the worship guide.
