What to Expect
Welcome! We hope this brief introduction will help make you feel at home and we look forward to seeing you.
What kind of people are there? Trinity Harbor Church is an electic community. You're likely to bump into students, business types, a mom, singles, big families, a grandpa, little kids, nerds, city folk, country folk, Texans, yankees, you name it.
How should I dress? Clothing styles vary. Some folks wear jeans and boots, others wear jackets and dresses. Wear what you like. There is no code or norm. If you wear a large duck costume, you might stand out. Then again, you might not.
What happens when I get there? Each Sunday morning, one of our members makes specialty coffee drinks downstairs from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m.There will also be good things to eat to go along with the coffee. Why? We value community, and we hope to build it by coming together before service to share in one another's lives. Come discuss the week with one another, let your children play together, and since the pastoral staff will be present you can ask them any questions you may have. Coffee, as always, will be free. If you want a specialty coffee drink, like a latte, then there will be a small charge to help defray the cost.
Christian Education for adults, youth, and children begins at 9:30 a.m., and the worship service starts at 10:30 am. We encourage you to pick up a worship guide and browse through it. You'll see all aspects of the service written there, including some quotes for pre-worship reflection. If you have any questions, just ask.
What about children? We love children! They are welcome throughout the service. This is a worshipping community and not a symphony performance at the Meyerson. We're flexible with those with children. We have a friendly, staffed nursery for your convenience. Every Sunday during worship, we have a Children's Sermon, where the three through seven-year-old children come up front and hear a special message from the pastor. (Adults have been known to learn as much as the children during this time)
What is the service like? The worship service is a dialogue (of sorts) between the community and God. The service includes music, prayer, readings from Scripture, greeting one another (friendly and brief), a sermon, an offering, and on the first Sunday of the month, the Lord's Supper. On that Sunday, the service is immediately followed by lunch in the basement. Everyone is welcome to join in this informal meal that we enjoy sharing together.
How long does the service last? About 90 minutes. Sometimes a little longer on special occasions such as Easter or when we celebrate a baptism.
Am I required to do anything during the service? No. You may participate at whatever level you are comfortable. An invitation to join in the Lord's Supper is given to all who profess to believe the Christian faith. If you don't believe or are not sure, we ask you not to participate in this part of the service. We would not ask you to do anything that would compromise your conscience or authenticity.
